Regions: Caribbean, Pacific, South Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Polar/Sub-polar

No medium grant call for proposals is foreseen for 2017.

BEST 2.0 Medium Grants target medium sized projects requiring funding of between €100,000 and €400,000. The projects must target one or more of the EU Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs). The BEST 2.0 Grant can only finance costs relating to actions in the EU OCTs.

Regional projects can include actions in the EU OCTs as well as in the EU Outermost Regions (ORs) and/or independent neighbouring countries, but the costs related to actions outside of the OCTs cannot be covered by the BEST 2.0 grant. In this case the project must have additional financing to fund the actions in the EU Outermost Regions (ORs) and/or independent neighbouring countries.

Projects that focus on the following topics in the OCTs of the above regions will be considered for funding:

Conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems
Sustainable use of ecosystem services and natural resources
Ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation

Applicants must submit a detailed proposal for a Medium Grant that will be evaluated in order to allow the European Commission to make a final decision regarding the award of a grant (please see the steps of the application process below).

Previous Calls for Proposals
2015

The first medium grant call for proposals, targeting the Caribbean and Pacific regions, was launched on the 14th September 2015. A total of 8 projects, with actions in 13 of the OCTs, were selected by the European Commission for the award of a BEST 2.0 grant. A summary of the outcome of the call by region is presented in the following table.

2016

The second medium grant call for proposals, targeting the Indian Ocean, South Atlantic and Polar/Sub-polar regions, was launched on the 2nd May 2016. A total of 4 projects, with actions in 4 of the OCTs, were selected by the European Commission for the award of a BEST 2.0 grant. A summary of the outcome of the call by region is presented in the following table.
